Monroe County’s newly-elected legislators, Sen. Ana Maria Rodriguez and Rep. Jim Mooney hosted a zoom meeting to hear priorities from local governments, stakeholder groups, and the public.

Monroe County Legislative Director and FIRM Board Member Lisa Tennyson presented the County’s priorities which also include FIRM’s priority to preserve Citizen’s 10% rate cap. The full draft of the County’s priorities can be found on the Legislative Affairs page of the County’s website.

At a December meeting of the Citizens Board of Governors, FIRM learned that in an effort to provide “actuarially sound rates,” Citizens is seeking to eliminate the 10% rate cap on new policies.

The two legislators have been named to the following committee assignments:

Sen. Ana Maria Rodriguez – Chair, Senate Finance & Tax Committee; Vice-Chair, Senate Appropriations Sub-committee on Health & Human Services; Agriculture; Appropriations Subcommittee on Criminal and Civil Justice; Military and Veterans Affairs; Space and Domestic Security and Transportation.

Rep. Jim Mooney – Early Learning & Elementary Education Subcommittee; Environment, Agriculture & Flooding Subcommittee; Finance & Facilities Subcommittee; Post-Secondary Education & Lifelong Learning Subcommittee and State Affairs Committee.
