The City of Key Colony Beach last week joined the City of Key West in providing funding for FIRM. FIRM contends that the ever increasing cost of windstorm insurance for the citizens of Monroe County has reached a critical state. Citizen’s Property Insurance Corp. is mandated by the enabling legislation to provide affordable insurance to the residents who otherwise cannot obtain it. Citizens, the insurer of last resort for many residents in Monroe County, has increased windstorm insurance rates a cumulative amount of 221% over the last eight years.
