FIRM is planning a windstorm forum, and we want input from you about what topics you’d like the forum to cover.
In 2023, FIRM hosted representatives from Citizens and from the Insurance Consumer Advocate’s office on field trips to Monroe County. We wanted them to see for themselves how resilient our structures are here Monroe County, with the strictest building code in the state. We also wanted to them hear from leaders in the community–elected officials, school administrators, law enforcement, medical administrators, housing authority officials–the folks who keep our communities running. Housing affordability, affected by the cost of property insurance, is a big obstacle to attracting employees to the Keys.
Now, we want to hear from you, the residents. What is your biggest concern about windstorm insurance? What do you think Citizens and Tallahassee are getting wrong–or right? Do you want more information about the mitigation programs such as My Safe Florida Home, My Safe Florida Condo Pilot Project, and Elevate Florida?
Meeting the concerns and needs of the community will determine the outline for this forum and provide exactly the information that you need to make informed decisions about your property insurance.
