Florida’s Insurance Commissioner Mike Yaworsky and his team are reviewing Citizens windstorm rate recommendations for 2025 as well as comments from other officials. Specifically, comments were made by Insurance Consumer Advocate Tasha Carter who referenced Monroe County in her remarks, Sen. Ana Maria Rodriguez and Rep. Jim Mooney who sent letters opposing any rate increase for Monroe County and comments made at the hearing by FIRM President Mel Montagne and Vice President Joe Walsh.
And kudos to 140 Monroe County residents who sent in their comments by the August 15 deadline. FIRM reached out to ask you to share your feelings and we greatly appreciate your support.
Now we wait.
In his remarks, Montagne concluded, “once again FIRM opposes any rate increase for Monroe County because year after year Monroe consistently is near the top of rate increases in spite of the fact that storm history, mitigation methods, and building codes simply are not reflected in the models and we have no reasonable degree of competition.”
