The My Safe Florida Home Program was re-enacted in 2022. The program was created to strengthen Florida homes against hurricanes and save homeowners money. The program consists of two primary components:
- Wind mitigation home inspections to identify those elements of your home’s construction which could be improved to mitigate your home against future wind damages. All inspections will be provided to eligible homeowners free of charge by the State.
- Wind Mitigation Grant awards for home construction. You may be eligible to apply for a matching grant where for every $1 you provide, the state will provide $2 toward the actual cost of an authorized mitigation project (or 2/3s of the project cost up to $10,000). The grant funds are non-taxable income.
This popular program has run out of funding each year since it was reenacted. The 2024 Florida Legislature added $200 million to the program, and now homeowners are free to choose their contractor so long as that contractor is licensed and verified by the Department of Financial Services.
New funding for free inspections has been exhausted and the application process has been paused. Remaining funds will be used for home hardening grants and prioritized as follows:
Low-income homeowners, 60 years of age or older;
Low-income homeowners;
Moderate-income homeowners, 60 years of age or older;
Moderate-income homeowners;
All eligible homeowners

The Condo Pilot program was appropriated $30M and will launch in the fall of 2024.
