Citizens annual rate hearing usually held in August has been postponed, according to Christine Ashburn the corporation’s Chief of Communications and Legislative and External Affairs.

“(The Citizens) Board of Governors deferred the discussion on rates in June due to COVID-19, with plans to bring the rates to the September board meeting that will be held virtually.” Ashburn responded in an email to FIRM’s President Mel Montagne.

“Given the current circumstances and the ongoing situation with the pandemic in Florida, a decision has been made to again defer the rate discussion,” she concluded.

Monroe County residential windstorm rates have not seen an increase since 2017 thanks to FIRM’s efforts.
