The Florida Office of Insurance Regulation (OIR) will conduct a rate hearing to receive public comment for Citizens’ proposed rate changes at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 14, 2019. The hearing will be held at Florida International University’s Kovens Conference Center (Biscayne Bay Campus) located in North Miami, Florida.

The purpose of the public hearing is to discuss Citizens’ proposed rate changes for its business in the Coastal Account (CA), Commercial Lines Account (CLA), and the Personal Lines Account (PLA). The proposed increase for Monroe County is 7.6% for residential wind only and 9.7% for condos wind only.

This is the first time the OIR has held a rate hearing since August 2017. FIRM Board members and other Monroe County residents testified at that rate hearing, and subsequently Commissioner Altmaier froze Citizens proposed rate increase.

FIRM will be testifying at the rate hearing again this year, and FIRM is also sending a contingent to Florida Keys Day in Tallahassee next week. Keep an eye out for updates and our legislative agenda.
