FIRM’s efforts were featured on the front page of Sunday’s Key West Citizen.

Members of FIRM’s Board of Directors participated in Florida Keys Day in Tallahassee last week to continue their plea for windstorm rate relief for the residents of Monroe County.

Since October 2016 FIRM has been challenging the most recent Citizens’ rate increase through legal channels. FIRM contends that the disparity among the hurricane models warrants closer scrutiny especially when considering the premium and loss statistics for Monroe County which has the highest windstorm rates in the State. In the period 2004 -2015 Monroe County paid $769.3 million in Citizens’ premiums and filed only $83.4 million in claims.  This is a remarkable $685.9 million in premiums in excess of claims. Monroe County, never, in any of those 12 years filed claims that exceeded premiums, even in the storm years of 2004 and 2005.
